Hundreds turned out Saturday for the Diwali festival at the Fremont Hindu Temple, one of the most important Indian celebrations of the year. Diwali (also spelled Dawali or Davali) or Deepavali [deep = "light of the dharma", avali = "a continuous line" ] is an Indian festival that signifies the light of knowledge over the darkness of ignorance, which is celebrated on the last day of the last month (kartika) of lunar calendar (falling on October 28th this year but is celebrated the two days prior and after this date). Donations were part of the second annual food drive run by a consortium of Indian groups in and around Naperville in honor of Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights. Diwali festival is a 5 day Hindu festival in India which occurs on the fifteenth day of Kartika.
