Take a look at the Big Ten standings and you’ll find that Penn State defeated four teams that finished below it. Take another look and you’ll find the Nittany Lions lost to four teams that finished above them or tied with them. Joe Paterno plans to return in 2011 for his 46th season as Penn State’s coach. And the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla. — have their eyes on the Nittany Lions. Bowl matchups won’t be announced until Sunday, but it looks like Michigan is down to two options â the Gator Bowl or Insight Bowl. Jacksonville is about to host the 65th annual Gator Bowl — a New Year’s tradition that means big business for the local economy. The Iowa Hawkeyes are gathering some steam as a possible Gator Bowl opponent for the University of Florida Jan. 1 at Everbank Field. Should the Gator Bowl select the Florida Gators for the annual New Year’s Day game in Jacksonville? Or better yet, will it be all but forced to? A crazy weekend of college football did little to change the Gator Bowl’s prospects. Iowa and Penn State are the primary Big Ten targets in the first year of new bowl affiliation. Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Charlie Weis has done it. He’s finally beaten Pete Carroll. What has wr Verran Tucker been able to do that your run-of-the-mill free agent wide receiver hasnât been able to do and what do you like about him? WEIS: âitâs interesting because they brought him in two weeks into training camp. The Irish followed the nfl pathway in hiring Charlie Weis , a ‘78 alum and Offensive Coordinator, from the New England Patriots. Romeo Crennel was 24-40 as Cleveland head coach and was fired. The Panthers offensive coordinator — comes from the same Bill Belichick coaching tree as Charlie Weis, who is the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator. But Iâve seen too many guys come from pro football (charlie Weis comes to mind) who believe they are so much smarter than everybody and will be able to just out-scheme people to wins. Ok, so it took offensive coordinator Charlie Weis and a system with which Cassel was comfortable for him to flourish. Were you able to see any differently how defenses were scheming without wr Dexter McCluster in the lineup? charlie WEIS: âevery week is different and every team is different. Many questions surrounded the hiring of Brian Kelly back in December. 16 days after a too common defeat by usc (41-10), 13 days after the expected firing of the underachieving Tyrone Willingham, with three rings on his fingers, the newly hired head coach of Notre Dame preached such a determined statement. “as we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation isnot to utter words, but to live by them.” The 2007 class wasnât supposed to be in the discussion as the âworst everâ to attend Notre Dame.
